Thank you for this question which will be answered by Jill Wheatcroft
Hi Rachel,
We are strong believers in anyone caring for children having a First Aid qualification.
There are several great choices ranging from a short Baby and Child CPR session to a 12 hour Level 3 qualification in Paediatric First Aid course. Most nannies undertake our 1 day accelerated Paediatric First Aid course.
Info: 1 Day Accelerated Paediatric First Aid + optional Epi Pen Session please find details below. All are course are run by fully qualified instructors, and we have a minimum ratio of 1 instructor to 12 students. http://www.riversidetrainingcompany.co.uk/product/1-day-paediatric-first-aid-optional-epi-pen-session/
We recommend (incorporated into our training)  the following elements to ensure your nanny is prepared for an emergency, these contents are also required by Ofsted:

  • Dealing with emergencies
  • Resuscitating
  • Recognising and responding appropriately to anaphylactic shock
  • Contents of a First Aid Kit
  • Recording accidents and incidents
  • Planning for First Aid emergencies
  • Dealing with shock, blood loss, poisoning, foreign objects and electric shock
  • Dealing with conditions such as epilepsy, asthma, sickle cell & diabetes
  • Recognising and responding to Meningitis and other sudden serious illness
  • Responding appropriately to burns, scalds & choking
  • Suspected fractures
  • Head, neck & back injuries
  • Eye injuries, bites, stings, effects of extreme heat & cold, febrile convulsions

We also offer a shorter Baby and Child 3 hour first aid session for those who cannot attend a full day. This is ideal if you have a small group of parents, grandparents and friends who look after your child and wish to learn basic first aid.  Please see link below for details http://www.riversidetrainingcompany.co.uk/product/baby-and-child-first-aid-for-families-3-hour/
Our training team are supported by our office who operate Monday to Friday (training happens Monday – Sunday) please drop the team a line to info@riversidecares.co.uk if you have any further questions and of course our website gives detailed information too
Thanks and Kind regards,
