Hello Jane,

As a guide, the best finger foods are soft foods that can be cut up into pieces that are big enough for your baby to hold in their fist, and stick out of the top of it. Pieces about the size of your own finger work well. Baby’s will then chew bits off. Avoid grapes and nuts unless ground into past and put on bread. You can also give boiled rice, porridge etc.. make a little sticky and they will eat with their fingers. All parents worry about choking it is not common in weaning and if they do choke, learn them forward or put them over the knee and a firm back slap between the should blades will usually get rid of what they are choking on.. We also suggest if you have not done so carrying out a Baby and Child First Aid session, which may help make you worry less about what to do if your baby did choke.   I hope this helps.
